The other night Dasan and I were sitting on the couch, and I was listening to a podcast on oil futures and running through worst-case scenarios.
Oil prices are zooming. War. Politics.
Meanwhile, Dasan quietly grabbed the keys and said, “Well… if gas is going up, we should probably fill up the cars.”
And off he went.
One of us was mentally preparing for the end of civilization... the other filled the tanks.
That’s when it hit me. Sometimes the most important thing isn’t figuring everything out… it’s having someone in your life who balances you out.
Now, I don't know who you are or how you handle times like this.
Whoever you are, and whatever role you find yourself playing, I want you to remember:
You don't know everything.
Yes... I know... in some ways our hands are tied. But in other ways, we've still got agency. We're still in control of many things... and... it turns out...
Community is the cheat code.
The theory is that we gravitate to people who are like us... but I'm going to put it out there that many of the people we trust most are the people who complement us.
When we hit hairy times, it helps to open up to those people. I mean, I knew gas prices were going up, and it makes all the sense in the world to go fill up... but neither of us took action until we talked. Amazing what happens when we simply say what's in our head!
And if you don’t have that person right now? Be that person for someone else.
Because sometimes the best thing we can do is help each other fill the tanks.
